Mission Beach

Day 19 of 135

sunny 35 °C

We picked up our car this morning to start our road trip down to Sydney, after saying goodbye to our new friends at the hostel we set off for our next destination, Mission Beach. We arrived at Mission Beach around 2.00pm after a 2 ½ hour journey from Cairns, on the way down we found out that the Mission Beach area has an endangered species called the Cassowary of which they fully publicise to tourists, we therefore travelled at about 5 km an hour to try and spot one of these Cassowarys but to no avail! The ‘town’ constitutes of 3 restaurants and about 5 shops so it didn’t take too long to look round, we then headed for the beach which is stunning, there is a cordoned off part of the sea due to the amount of jelly fish, but beautiful palm trees with coconuts and a really nice breeze which was definitely welcome. Mission Beach is one of the main beaches for sky diving as its nice hard sand, we thought we would give this a miss though considering all our aches and pains from wake boarding and scuba diving (must be getting old) Decided to treat ourselves to dinner and were the only ones in the restaurant (by the waiters behaviour we think he wanted an early night!)
